  • Her late husband, Michel Berger, a prolific musical genius and unfortunately (for them) just about unknown in the Anglo-Saxon world wrote very nice songs for her, including this one in 1987. Incidentally the lyricist of both his rock operas «Starmania» and «La légende de Jimmy», and of all the songs composed for Diane Dufresne until the mid-eighties by François Cousineau, happens to be the same Luc Plamondon (a Québécois needless to say). Both Diane Dufresne (Stella Spotlight) and France Gall (Cristal) were from the first recorded (1978) and then live performances in Paris (1979) of Starmania. Small world.

France Gall is a kind of doll. Diane Dufresne is a rocker and diva. Gall's childish voice gets on my nerves and her interpretations leave me cold as winter. Dufresne's voice and interpretations give me goose bumps when it doesn't bring me to tears. But that's only me. I just have this thing for people who cross the frontiers of their craziness. And those people in the hall in the Oxygène video are not actors! Diane Dufresne concerts were not concerts, they were events.

I have a cinch that if Diane Dufresne is not your cup of tea, this wouldn't be either. But maybe this would be. I don't think I'll ever tire of this original "interprétation magistrale" by Fabienne Thibault.

Sorry for this impromptu "night at the movies".
