Yury Grigorovich is my favorite choreographer. I have a DVD of Maya Plisetskaya in Swan Lake but it’s from 1957 and the one on Sky Arts is from 1976.
@titus_bigglesworth - I can’t find my old passports. I wanted to check my visas. / I also Went to the Leningrad ballet. Completely different thing.
The Kirov and Bolshoi are very different. I prefer the Bolshoi, it’s much grander and the stage is huge. The Kirov is more intimate and less daring. (imho).
@titus_bigglesworth - When I went, the Kirov was modern dance. At the Bolshoi I saw, for the first time, classical dance.
@titus_bigglesworth - I managed to find my old passports, but no luck with the visa. So I’m going to have to find some other way to figure out when I was there. An old program or something. Since I never throw anything away, I’m sure I’ve got them somewhere. The problem is finding them.
I’m so lucky to have lived moments of extraordinary beauty.
I can’t imagine seeing the Bolshoi or the Kirov (now the Miriinksy) in person. Ballet can be the most beautiful art form if done well. I went to see the Nutcracker twice in Austin and it was magical. The lighting and the sets and costumes. I’m glad you got to see such beauty in Russia.
I’d say dance, not just ballet. (Not _all_ dance.)
For me there’s something about tutu’s that crystallizes beauty.
