Things I've learned this week by watching tv:

    Britain is full of paedophiles.

So many English and Welsh people are paedophiles that the British government now insists that everyone who might have anything to do with children - even if it's just car-pooling after school - is to be vetted and put on an official list of non-paedophiles.

(Scottish children being particularly unattractive, the government has decided there is no point in extending the rules farther north.)

I presume the official non-paedophiles will get a certificate or a badge of some sort which they will have to display whenever they get near a school or playground.

Joe Wilson and I are not that different.

For eight years I shouted "You lie" at the tv every time Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, O'Reilley, et al. came on.  And now I shout "You lie" every time I hear a "conservative".  So I can't pretend to be too shocked when Wilson does it.

And I'll admit.  If Bush had wanted to talk to my kids, I'd have had the Brits check him out first.

DAB is not necessarily better than FM.

Especially if one wants to walk around in the woods.  So buying the iRiver B20 was not a wise move.  Particularly since just two weeks later I ordered the new iTouch.  Which I should have tomorrow, and for which I've already downloaded loads of free apps.

Troops are easy to see killed.

    Nineteen-year-old kids less so.

    A medal doesn't replace a 19-year-old kid.

    Unless you're a Republican.

  • The iPodtouch looks great. I didn't know what is was till I checked.

  • Seven?

Who will vet those who will vet?

I pity your poor TV, caught in the crossfire. Maybe we should put yours and mine in contact. They could share their misery.

Friend has an iTouch. He touches it a lot.

  • When and if gays are allowed to be openly in the military, won't that sort of change things? I mean, they are fighting for "equality", but is this what they really want? I mean, really, think about it. That is also a very unkind thing to say, about Republicans thinking a 19 year old can be replaced by a metal. Obama is not a Republican, and he's going to be sending more troops to Afghanistan, then there's good old Democrat LBJ, and that place called Vietnam, which was ended by that great Republican villain, Nixon.

I don't think "gays" want anything as a subspecies. As individuals, most human beings just want to be left alone. We want to be able to pursue happiness without having other people trying to mess it up for us.

(During American involvement in Viet Nam I was very glad the government didn't want me. It saved me from prison.)

Insofar as Republicans are concerned... I think they are being obstructionist right now. They want Obama to fail and seem to be willing to do anything to make that happen. The glee at Chicago's Olympic failure is an example.

The idea behind a market-place of ideas is competition of _ideas_. The Republican Party today is not offering ideas. It's selling rant. Frustrated rant.

My medal comment may be unfair, but it isn't unkind. Of course it's not just Republicans who don't mind seeing lives cut short for their own goals. It's just unfortunate that so many Republicans are working so hard to get people to think that violating the rights of others is a Republican cause.
